It was announced a few days ago that a director has been attached to the Thor film set to be released in Summer of 2010. His name? Kenneth Branagh. Ever heard of him? Me neither. But a simple IMDB check reveals that he is none other than... Professor Lockhart from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets! The actor playing Professor Lockhart is now responsible for bringing about an epic Asgardian tale of gods. Looking further through his IMDB profile shows that he has directed a little over a dozen movies (none of which I've seen), including 1996's Hamlet, in which he cast himself as... Hamlet.

That being said, most people didn't have much faith when it was announced that Jon Favreau (who's best directorial picture had been Elf) was set to direct Iron Man, but he ended up being a perfect choice for the job. From what I have read, Thor will be taking place entirely in the god's realm of Asgard, and he will not be making an appearance on Earth until the Avengers movie the following year. It's seems like an interesting idea (has me thinking it might be something along the lines of 300), but it remains to be seen if the mainstream audience would be into that kinda thing.

Thor is slated to come out in July of 2010, two months after Iron Man 2. The following summer will feature a Captain America movie, leading into a team Avengers movie two months later in which they join all three heroes -- and which, by the way, may feature one Eva Longoria. Longoria was seen leaving Marvel Studios with a handful of Avengers comics and business cards a few weeks ago. Avengers + Eva Longoria? Yes please.
