I'd Buy That For a Dollar

In the same vain as the Washington state legislature spending time on voting for the official state beverage, citizens in Detroit (a city with rampant unemployment and plummeting property values) have somehow raised $50,000 in 10 days to erect a statue of Robocop.

Spawning from a twitter question fielded by the mayor's media response team, the request went viral over the net as fans and supporters raised $25,000 for a statue to immortalize Detroit's near future half-man, half-machine, all cop privatized public servant. A private donor matched the $25,000 to raise the $50,000 required estimate to put the statue somewhere in downtown Detroit.

Don't get me wrong, Robocop was one of my favorite movies growing up and I still have regular viewings of it (the sequels, not so much). But I think Detroit of all places could put that $50,000 to a laundry list of other good uses, rather than having Peter Weller sit down for a sculptor to get his mouth area right.

Then again, we have the Jimmy Hendrix statue, Philly has Rocky... maybe Detroit needs this?

Long time since the last Celebrity Sighting! And coincidentally a second one of local sports heroes at Bellevue Square. Went in to buy a gift and who's there? The Bone and Rick Rizzs.
