On the first night of rain after what seemed like months of sunshine, thirty some odd players and two umpires ventured to a baseball field deep in the heart of Kent. Despite being battered by showers early on, the game went on as scheduled and resulted in the largest comeback of the season. Down 13-2 through the fourth inning, the Mariners battled back in a 13 run seventh inning to take the lead 18-16, scoring eight runs with two outs. With the M's up by six runs going into the bottom half of the last inning, the Diablos scored four before C. Ortiz struck out the batter for the third out with the bases loaded. M's win 22-20, good for their 4th win of the year.
I broke out of a 5-21 slump which saw my batting average drop from .538 to 0.404, with no extra bases during that time. Part of it might be because I started batting myself leadoff, and I guess I can't take the pressure. Last night I put myself eight in the lineup and dropped three hits over the course of the game, two in that thirteen run seventh inning (a solid line drive to right, and an infield hit to the pitcher down the third base line), and another in the top of the eighth when I beat out a ground ball hit to the second baseman.
2B: R Davidson (1); J Osnaya (3); 3B: G Link (3); C Ortiz (2);
I think this win will be a huge boost for both myself and the team going into our last four regular season games. It's not easy to come back in a game where you seem to be out of it so early, but baseball is a game of momentum and all we needed were a few hits to spur the charge back. This win comes after our last game against the Nuts when C. Ortiz hit a three run shot to tie the game in the bottom of the eight inning -- a game that ended up in a tie because of time restraints.
I'm a little pissed because my next game was supposed to be at a field five minutes away from my house, but it was just rescheduled to one in which I have to trudge through SR-520 during Friday night traffic to get to.
Next game: Fri. August 14th, 7:00PM @ Marymoor Park
