The regular season has ended on a dissapointing note for my team. We dropped our last two games after going on a three game winning streak to end our season at 6-11-1, good for 5th place in a division of eight teams. Playoffs begin next Friday, and hopefully the team can pull together for a deep post season run. We've shown flashes of absolute brilliance at times, and ended up with the highest team batting average in the league (0.381 to the next team's 0.362). Unfortunately I'm pretty sure we have the highest team ERA as well as most walked batters (pitching stats aren't aggregated for teams).
I tied for the top spot in the league for number of at bats, tied for 3rd in runs scored, was 6th in hits, T-10th in doubles, T-4th in triples, T-2nd in home runs, 21st in batting average, 10th in slugging percentage, and 15th in on base plus slugging. I would say I had a fairly successful year and as can be seen from above, enjoyed a drastic improvement from last year. Unfortunately I wasn't very clutch for my team, as three of those eight strikeouts came in bases loaded situations.
But how did I do in regard to my season goals?
»Bat better than .300.
Check
»Steal five bases.
Almost doubled it, check.
»Commit zero errors.
Definitely no check. I don't think I can count on one hand how many misplayed balls I had in my first year in the outfield. I did gun a few runners down at the plate though... My first basemanship was fine, making no errors in the infield.
»Strike out less than last year.
Big check. I struck out less times despite playing in three more games and having twenty more at bats.
»Hit one home run.
I got this one out of the way in my first game when I hit one of two inside the park home runs on the season. I did not hit a fly ball over an outfielder's head the entire season.
It looks as if the hard work I put in during the offseason really paid off. I look forward to hitting the gym again more regularly, as well as increasing my throwing/batting practice sessions. Before that though, we have five games to win to become division champions. Come root us on at our:
