Hrm... after probably the most serious post I'll ever make on this blog, I feel like I should post something lighter. Due to a multitude of factors, I have lost almost twenty pounds in the last four months. Since baseball season began, I have dropped from my all time high of 174 pounds to approximately 156. My scale did hit 154.4 once, but I think it was an aberration. Suffice it to say, this is a huge falloff.
April destroyed me when I was working nearly eighty hours a week, leaving no time to work out, little time to sleep, and forced crappy eating habits. Then in May baseball season started meaning I could squeeze about one workout in a week (didn't want to be sore for games). That has lasted up until now. The increased cardio might have helped me lose some fat, but what I lost obviously wasn't the jiggly stuff.
I did adopt slightly healthier eating habits by trying to increase the number of meals I ate per day, but I think I overcompensated and ended up eating less for each meal than I should have. It might be back to counting calories again... not to limit what I intake, but to make sure I'm getting enough.
There are some positives to this weight loss though: I have some slight definition that wasn't there before -- I see four abs (so I guess I'm halfway there) where before it was all concealed under a layer of fat. And I believe my speed and vertical jump increased (purely due to dropping weight, not because of any increased exercising). However, my pants are no longer fitting correctly; I have to knot the belt one hole tighter so I don't flash my undies at work.
The baseball season is coming quickly to an end though with [hopefully] a few weeks of playoffs left. After that, it will be back to hitting the gym multiple times a week as I try to get myself back to my goal weight of 175 pounds. No small task to gain muscle and cut fat at the same time. But with good planning, dedicated gym time, and well thought out food preparation, I think I'll be prepared to take on this challenge.
