Padres' Sunday's Finest

It's one thing to wear nasty looking uniforms... but for a team to do it twice in the same weekend, with two different sets? The Mariners went into San Diego to continue interleague play with a three game series against the Padres. Friday was apparently '70s throwback night, and it showed.

Yellow and Brown, Randy Wolf?

The M's weren't looking the sharpest either...

This was a routine fly ball for Ichiro, until
he got distracted by Jose Lopez's jersey.

This was all topped off today in the series finale, when the Padres came out in their "Camo" alternates.

Sorry Jake, the camo's hiding power doesn't transfer to the ball.

Now don't get me wrong, I like the idea of the camoflauge alternate jerseys as a tribute to our armed forces. In fact, I think it's a fantastic idea that more teams should adopt. However, let's be reasonable -- on a baseball diamond, unaesthetic is an understatement.

Whether due to opposing team clothing choices or not, the Mariners completed their first sweep of this unexpectedly dismal 2008 season, going 6-3 on the road trip. Hopefully this leads to a turn around resulting in a strong second half run. Go Mariners!
