The San Diego Comi-Con concludes today, ending four and a half days of one of the largest pop[nerd]-culture events. While a great time for studios to promote new shows or movies, stars to make appearances, and companies to get a chance to show off or build awareness for their new products, I think I've come across some pictures of what makes Comi-Con fun for the casual attendee:
Cool props: the Iron Man armor seen here was one worn in the movie by Robert Downey Jr. Also present was the new car from the upcoming James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace (I still don't know what that title means), and KITT from the new Knight Rider series.
Costumed fans feeling free to dress up as their favorite superheroes...
Or at least trying to:
Families spending quality time together:
And the always high percentage of girls that dress as Princess Leia -- whether they have the bodies for it or not.

And the news! I'm not going to bore you silly announcements such as how War Machine will be taking over the Iron Man: Director of Shield comic after the Secret Invasion issues, but I will say this: hot on the heels of the Dark Knight movie, Bruce Wayne appears to be dead in the comics. While I don't read issues of Batman, from what I can piece together apparently the main Batman title is in the middle of an arc which involves the death of Bruce Wayne with someone else taking up the Batman mantle afterwards. Not one year removed from the death of Captain America, it seems as if DC is trying to kill off one of their own major characters to see if it can boost sales with the device. However, as this doesn't seem to be heavily advertised anywhere (Cap's death made CNN as well as other major news outlets), I'm assuming this is a short lived thing and Bruce Wayne will be back in the tights by the start of next year; especially since I'm assuming DC wants to get people who watch The Dark Knight to get into the books. It would confuse them greatly if Wayne wasn't the man under the mask. That said, Captain America is still dead. But with his movie slated for the summer of 2011, my money's on Steve Roger's returning -- maybe sooner than later. *End geek rant*
While I don't have plans on ever going to the San Diego Comi-Con (and not just for my disdain of travelling; the lines are too long and the crowds are too big -- seriously), the Emerald City ComiCon happens every year at the beginning of April. Next year, it is slated for April 4-5. Surprisingly, I've yet to attend of of these, but I've already marked the upcoming one in my Outlook calendar. Hopefully I'll see you there!

didn't bane already kill batman a while ago? comics can do whatever they want really...
ReplyDeleteActually, he broke Batman's back. It's OK though, Batman was back soon after with a somehow fully repaired spine. But yes, anything is possible in comics, anything...
