Oodles of Baseball, Oh My!

Three games with no updates, so I'm gonna combine em all into one. My team is struggling, going 1-2 and those games, with our only win coming against the team that we blew out in the first week. Our offense is top two in the division in almost every hitting category, which means that our pitching and defense is to blame. Unearned runs are the bane of our existence. Every single or base on balls is pretty much an automatic double (sometimes triple) because the pitcher's haven't been great at holding runners on, and our catcher does not have the arm to throw basestealers out. That combination is allowing opposing teams to run all over us. Our defense is slightly shaky, especially in our last game. More than a few singles hit to the outfield turned into triples and even a home run because the outfielders took bad routes to the ball, allowing it to get past them. We're having a special practice later today, to see if we can iron some things out and get back to winning ways.

In lighter news the All-Star game was on the 4th of July, featuring our Rocky division All-Stars vs. those representing the higher-up Adams division. The game was held at the UW baseball field and the weather was extremely cooperative. Because there were so many people, playing time was split up and I only got two at bats, as well as two innings in the field. I played right field for those two innings (saw no action) and was slated to play second base in the 9th, but I told the manager that if the game was close to not put me out there -- I know my limitations. Sure enough, the game was extremely close and despite being up two going into the bottom of the ninth, the Adams rallied back and won the game on a throwing error by the third baseman. I struck out looking my first at bat on a fastball right down the middle, but got a clutch two out base hit on the first pitch I saw in the 5th inning, lining it into right field. It was great playing with all the people that you usually play against all season and despite our loss it was a fantastic baseball game, as both teams battled back multiple times to tie it up or take the lead.

My season totals are shaping up below:
